CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - It's a small kitchen but the burgers made on the grill at Saucy Focaccia are getting statewide recognition. The restaurant is one of ten finalists for Iowa's Best Burger.

"We're really happy," said Paul Andreasen, Owner.

What's unique about this place, well, they started off working in a food truck! They just opened a physical location at Cedar Rapids' NewBo City Market about a year ago.

The owner hopes the attention -- and potential bragging rights -- of winning best burger will help him in his goal of opening up his own restaurant.

"We're hoping that this pushes us even further into that direction so we can get to that point," said Andreasen.

It seems to be working. The nomination is how Chris Damon's friend heard about Saucy Focaccia and she brought him along for lunch.

"I think it's delicious! the best one I've had in town," said Damon.

Perhaps its the fresh ingredients, or the herb and cheese bread the burgers are served on. That's where the Saucy Focaccia names comes from.

"We kind of reformulated focaccia bread to fit into a bun style," said Andreasen.

Judges will visit the ten finalists and select a winner based on taste, appearance, and proper serving temperature.
