DUBUQUE (KWWL) - A former Dubuque police officer is charged with sexual abuse after authorities say he videotaped sexual acts with a 14-year-old girl.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports 29-year-old Kyle C. Cross made an initial court appearance Wednesday and his bond has been set at $10,000. His attorney has declined to comment.

A woman contacted Dubuque police in February to report her 14-year-old daughter had run away. Police say they found her at Cross' residence.

According to a criminal complaint, both Cross and the girl admitted to the contact.  Cross says he met the girl on a social network site and agreed to meet her in person.  The complaint also says investigators found the two communicated on Facebook by using their cell phones. Cross also sent a nude photograph of himself and admitted to law enforcement he videotaped the two engaged in sexual activities.

A Dubuque city spokesman says Cross was employed as a police officer from 2007 to 2012.  Lt. Scott Baxter says Cross was fired from the department.  Baxter also says the department worked with state agents in the investigation because Cross was a former employee of the department.
