Study: Diet pop may lead to more belly fat

Posted: Updated:
(CNN) – You may want to put down your diet soda for a second.

A new study suggests that drinking more of it can lead to greater belly fat in adults age 65 and older.

The study was published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, and it was done to raise concerns about the safety of chronic diet soda consumption.

Researchers say that while many adults try to reduce their sugar habit, obesity has seen dramatic growth alongside the average diet soda intake.

Researchers recommend that older people should try to curb their consumption of artificially sweetened drinks.
