Longtime College Basketball analyst believes Cyclones can make a deep run in NCAA Tournament

Posted: Updated:

The 3rd seeded cyclones are the first to take the floor-- Iowa State takes on 14th seeded UAB on Thursday morning at 11:40 in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Cyclones are coming off their second straight Big 12 postseason tournament title-- a championship game they won in dramatic fashion with a big second half rally to beat Kansas.

This is best time of the year for self -proclaimed college basketball junkie Mac McCausland. A longtime color analyst--although he is known for his ties to Iowa... McCausland believes the Cyclones have the team to make a deep run--- and it starts in the backcourt.

"Monte Morris if he isn't one of the 5 best point guard i want to see five better.. I think he is terrific quickness and he does not turn the ball over.. and that is such a huge asset in tournament play, because when you don't turn it over that means you get a shot up and whether you make it or miss it now you can get fouled and get a putback. I think he is really the key-- I like Niang and I like their whole team they are athletic and they all have the green light to shoot it.. but you have to great point guard play and he is a great point guard."

The Iowa Hawkeyes and UNI Panthers open tournament play on Friday in Seattle.
