CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - A Cedar Rapids family is looking for a new place to stay after a fire started in their home.

It happened a little after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday on the 2900 block of D Avenue NE.

According to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, four people were home when they heard a loud noise they thought was coming from the attic.

One person went towards the attic to investigate but then was turned back by smoke and fire.

All four people got out safely.

When crews arrived, they said they saw flames coming from two windows on the second floor and throughout the attic.

They were able to put out the fire shortly after arriving.

The fire department said there is heavy fire damage throughout the attic as well as smoke and water damage.

No word on what caused the fire at this time.

The fire is under investigation.
