Water tower work begins in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Maintenance work has begun on a water tower in Cedar Rapids.

The Cedar Rapids Utilities Department's Water Division began work on the C St. SW water tower, near Highway 30.

The water tower will be drained, then shut down at the end of the month so it can be painted and have other updates.

Officials say customers should not see any significant changes to their water supply during the work.

They do say customers on the southwest side, south of Wilson Avenue and east of 6th Street, may see discolored water, especially at the beginning of the work period.

They say the increased iron does not pose a health risk, and the water is still safe to drink.

Those same customers may also notice increased water pressure for the duration of the project.

The project's completion date is slated for mid-summer.
