IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Iowa City police officers say a person they were trying to arrest resisted so much they couldn't get them into a police vehicle.

Police say Jerel Fowler was arguing with someone outside Studio 13 bar in Iowa City around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. They say Fowler had poor balance and smelled like alcohol. A breath sample found Fowler's BAC to be .155.

Once officers tried to arrest Fowler, they say Fowler refused to turn around to be handcuffed, then tried to pull away as the handcuffs went on.

Officers say Fowler refused to walk towards a squad car and when an officer picked Fowler up, Fowler kicked the officer in the shins and tried to bite officers.

Officers say Fowler resisted and kicked so much that they had to take Fowler to jail in an ambulance instead of a squad car.

Fowler has been charged with Public Intoxication, Assault on a Peace Officer, and Interference with Corrections Official.
