Cyclones rally again. Beat Kansas 70-66 for back to back titles

Posted: Updated:
KANSAS CITY (KWWL) -

Iowa State just will not die. For the 5th consecutive game, the Cyclones rallied from a double digit deficit, this time taking down #9 Kansas to win their second straight Big 12 Tournament Championship 70-66.

Georges Niang led Iowa State with a 19 point effort. Abdel Nader put together a big 2nd half to add 13 to the total.

The 13th ranked Cyclones (25-8) appeared dead in the water after 3 Frank Mason free throws put Kansas (26-8) up 40-23 early in the second half. Iowa State, however, responded with a 10-0 run, 6 of those coming from Jameel McKay, to pull within 7, and they kept coming. Bryce Dejean Jones tied it 51-51 with a lay-up, and ISU took the lead for good on a pair of Nader free throws in the final 50 seconds.

ISU heads in to Selection Sunday on a 5 game winning streak. The Cyclones will learn their NCAA tournament fate tomorrow.
