Destroyed Habitat home will be rebuilt

Posted: Updated:
EVANSDALE (KWWL) - Habitat for Humanity leaders say they will rebuild after a fire destroyed the inside of one of their unfinished Evansdale homes.

Looking at the outside of the home, you wouldn't suspect there's anything wrong with it. On the inside, its a different story.

"In my 25 years building houses in this community, we've never had a situation like this happen. It's a really good track record, but it's not fun having this first fire," says Executive Director Ali Parrish.

A fire tore through the attic and destroyed the home's support structure.

Now, Habitat for Humanity has to start over.

"The family is you know, pretty devastated and disappointed. They're maintaining a positive attitude which is all I can hope for, and they know we'll take care of them," Parrish says.

The home was a few months away from being finished, and thankfully no one was inside when the fire started.

Passing along the news wasn't easy.

"You know, that was a really hard phone call to make, to call the family and let them know what was going on," says Parrish.

She says they're planning to rebuild, they're just now sure how yet.

"No matter what," says Parrish, "how far we have to go with deconstruction, we will rebuild on this foundation and the house will be here."

Fire officials are still looking into what caused the fire.
