Ex-Iowa police officer back in jail for parole violation

Posted: Updated:
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- A former Des Moines police officer who served more than two years in prison following a string of arrests is back behind bars.

The Des Moines Register reports that officer Brandon Singleton tested positive for methamphetamine twice this month, prompting a parole violation complaint that put him back in the Polk County Jail.

Singleton was fired from his police job in 2012 after he crashed his patrol car, and marijuana and methamphetamine were found in the squad car. He was sentenced to probation again following more drug and domestic assault charges, but received a 16-year prison sentence in late 2012 after cutting off his electronic ankle bracelet and fleeing.

He was released on parole on Jan. 13.

Singleton remained jailed Saturday and could not be reached for comment.
