IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Police say a man driving drunk drove across a pedestrian bridge in Iowa City -- and it's the hot topic on social media Friday.

Iowa City Police said Brian Bordwell, 19, of Geneseo had watery eyes, slurred speech, unsteady balance, smelled of alcohol and failed field tests, so they arrested him.

Several witnesses saw the shocking sight and took to social media.

"What...did I just see" asked Chris, ending the tweet with "only in Iowa City."

"Dude must've thought Iowa City was a new Mario Kart map," wrote another Twitter user early Friday.

Police officers say this was an unusual call for them.

"Fortunately it's not a frequent occurrence," said Sgt. Scott Gaarde, Iowa City Police Department. "Logistically, it's challenging to get a vehicle into those particular areas. Again, it's just not something that we see very frequently."

Officers found the car parked. They took Bordwell to the Johnson County Jail.

He's been charged with first-offense operating while under the influence.
