IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

An Illinois man was arrested after police say he got drunk and drove his car onto a pedestrian walkway in Iowa City.

Brian David Bordwell, 19, of Geneseo, Illinois, was arrested and charged with first-offense operating while intoxicated.

According to the criminal complaint from the Iowa City Police Department, Bordwell was observed driving onto a pedestrian walkway above Iowa Avenue and Riverside Drive in Iowa City just before 1:30 a.m. Friday.

Officers said his vehicle was found on the walkway. They say Bordwell exhibited "multiple signs of intoxication" and failed a preliminary breath test. He refused a breathalyzer test.

Bordwell was released from the Johnson County Jail Friday after posting bail.
