DES MOINES (KWWL) -

This time, the Falcons fell just a little bit short. Top ranked Aplington-Parkersburg dropped an overtime heart breaker to Treynor 74-70 in the class 2A semifinals.

A-P appeared poised for another set of late game heroics in the postseason. The Falcons erased a 5 point deficit in the final 2 minutes of regulation as Nick Ellis hit an inside jumper with 4 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. The shot marked the 3rd time in the postseason that Ellis hit a shot in the final 5 seconds to win or tie a game.

Treynor's Matt Deitchler, however, put the Cardinals ahead for good with an early trey in the overtime period as they'd end A-P's championship hopes.

Ross Cooper led the Falcon effort with 18 points, Nick Waller added 17 for the Falcons.

Aplington-Parkersburg will face Pella Christian in the 3rd place game on Friday.
