Evansdale fire destroys a home by Habitat for Humanity

Posted: Updated:

Evansdale Fire says the house needs to be demolished and rebuilt.

Their initial thought was that the home could be saved, but after  tearing down insulation, firefighters found areas of the structure were destroyed.

There is extensive damage to the roof truss system.

Crews will return to try to save as much as they can, such as siding and windows.

No one was injured.

A fire started in a home that is under construction as part of a project for Habitat for Humanity, Thursday morning.

It happened around 7:30 a.m. in Evansdale.

No one was injured or inside at the time of the fire.

The home was a couple of months away from being completed. As far as construction goes, crews were in the middle of applying sheetrock, or drywall to the structure. The home is damaged, but not destroyed.

The Evansdale Fire Department say it happened near the attic area. The cause is unknown at this time.

An investigation is ongoing.
