Iowa State says Athletic Director Jamie Pollard had successful open heart surgery Tuesday night in Des Moines.

Pollard is now resting after the triple bypass procedure and is expected to remain in the hospital for several days.

Iowa State Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard was transferred Tuesday afternoon to Des Moines Methodist Hospital following a heart attack he suffered Monday, according to Cyclones.com.

Pollard was admitted and treated at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, but will have open heart surgery later in the week in Des Moines, closer to home.

“It has been overwhelming to have received so many messages of support,” Pollard said. “Our family is so appreciative of the uplifting and encouraging thoughts and prayers.”

Iowa State University's Athletic Director Jamie Pollard suffered a heart attack Monday in Cedar Falls.

Pollard was watching his daughters in the Girls Varsity Invitational track meet at the University of Northern Iowa when he became ill. He was taken to Allen Hospital in Waterloo for treatment.

Pollard remains hospitalized for treatment and observation.

Senior Associate Athletics Director David Harris is the acting AD while Pollard recovers.
