RAGBRAI will visit La Porte City; a first since 1983

LA PORTE CITY (KWWL) - Snow may still be on the ground in La Porte City, but in just a few short months RAGBRAI cyclists will take over.

RAGBRAI will take off from Sioux City on July 19th and end in Davenport July 25th.

On the fifth day, RAGBRAI riders will leave Cedar Falls and head to Hiawatha, passing through towns like Hudson, La Porte City, and Vinton.

"Having a good time and a pork sandwich at 9:00 a.m," said Sarah Craft, La Porte City's RAGBRAI Co-Chair.

The last time the route included La Porte City was 1983, but Craft held this year's big secret for a few weeks.

The goal now is to organize a huge party for more than 20,000 people.

"I think we're just going to have a really good time with all the riders and hopefully meet people from all over the country and across the world really," said Craft.

Over at P&B Brew Pub they've been checking the RAGBRAI website since Cedar Falls and Hiawatha were announced as overnight stops.

"So I kind of assumed they would be in the area or was hopeful that they were passing through La Porte at least," said Brandi Baker, P&B Brew Pub owner.

Now Baker and her crew are working on a breakfast menu, entertainment, and drink specials for the July day.

"A lot of good business, a lot of good experience for everybody. I mean it's a plus for the community," said Baker.

This year's route also features eight new towns cyclists have never been through before. Some of those towns are Buckeye, New Hartford, Cleves, Austinville, and Mount Auburn.
