ALLAMAKEE COUNTY (KWWL) -

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is in its third week in collecting samples to be tested for Chronic Wasting Disease.

The special collection is happening in Allamakee County where they've found 4 deer that have tested positively for CWD in the 2013 and 2014 season.

The DNR submits samples to the National Veterinary Services Lab in Ames for testing.

26 samples were submitted in the first weekend of collecting.

Experts found there were no positives for CWD.

The goal is to collect 200 samples.

400 hunters have been issued permits.

CWD is a disease that affect the brain of the deer and is always fatal.
