UNI Dance Marathon aims for fundraising goal

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - The University of Northern Iowa hosts its Fourth Annual Dance Marathon Saturday, with a fundraising goal of $225,000.

The event runs from noon to midnight. More than 1,000 dancers will gather in the Mauker Union on campus to support children with life-threatening illnesses who have been treated, or are currently being treated, at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.

Last year, UNI raised $176,498.03, putting the UNI Dance Marathon in the top 20 highest fundraising Dance Marathon programs in the country.

During the event, dancers will remain standing for twelve hours and are not allowed to drink any caffeine. It symbolizes the fight that the miracle kids we support go through; they don't get a break from their illnesses, so dancers don't get to take a break from standing.

UNI Dance Marathon supports 41 miracle kids and their families. To donate to the cause, visit www.unidancemarathon.com and click on the Donate tab at the bottom of the page.

The final fundraising total will be announced Saturday night.
