WATERLOO (KWWL) - On the heels of recent layoffs announced in the Cedar Valley, a job fair in Waterloo Thursday aimed at helping those laid off get back to work.

IowaWORKS and the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance and Chamber sponsored the job fair at the Waterloo Center for the Arts. More than 40 companies held booths at the event.

Allen Zummak, a job fair attendee, was laid off last week. Zummak worked in maintenance at a local apartment complex.

"There's a lack of work right now and they decided to lay off, so, I wasn't about to wait. It's time to start looking," Zummak said.

People were able to look at companies ranging from ethanol production, to welding, to graphic design at the job fair.

"There was a couple in there that I was looking at that I was interested in so...  puts you in the right direction of what you're looking for," Zummak said.

Organizers say about 200 people came to the job fair Thursday.

Another job fair in the Cedar Valley will be held at Hawkeye Community College March 25.
