CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - It starts as a standard 911 call, the operator asks what is the person's emergency.

"I need help," said the woman. "I'm in a car accident. I'm going to die if I don't get help."

When the woman describes her injuries -- even the operator is shocked.

"A pipe went through my body," said the woman.

The woman was driving when she slid off the road, struggling to move to even call for help once the pipe went through her pelvis.

"I'm going to freeze to death if they don't come soon," said the woman.

"OK, alright, we're got help on the way, OK," said the operator.

"Please hurry, I've been out here for about an hour," said the woman.

As emergency crews try to find the woman, she gets nervous about her own condition.

"I slid off the road," said the woman. "Please, please. My fingers is getting numb. My body is getting cold. I just need help."

She can't even move to turn on her flashers, so she does what she can to get the attention of officers -- honk her horn. As help arrives, her plea continues.

"Please help," said the woman. "I'm freezing. I'm going to die. I need some heat. This pipe went through my body. Please help me."

The call ends as emergency crews work to save the woman. The woman was conscious as crews worked to save her -- removing the car piece by piece. They left the pipe for surgeons to take out and got her to the hospital. We reached out to the hospital for an update on her condition and were told that information was not available.

Police tell us the cause of the crash is part of the ongoing investigation. When asked by the 911 operator if she'd been drinking, the woman said no.
