Red Cross reminds to check smoke alarms when time changes

Posted: Updated:
With Daylight Saving Time taking place this weekend, the American Red Cross reminds people to take steps toward ensuring a safe household.

The Red Cross encourages people to check their smoke alarms batteries, and install smoke alarms if a household doesn't already have them. At a minimum, the Red Cross advises putting a smoke alarm on every level of the home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas.

It's also recommended to practice an escape plan, ensuring every member of the family knows how to escape the home in less than two minutes.

As part of the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign, the Red Cross conducts door-to-door visits and installation of smoke alarms in neighborhoods across the country.
