Coralville man makes final cut in meat-cutting championship for 3rd year

CORALVILLE (KWWL) -

Coralville's Matt Willis is hoping the third time is a charm -- for the third consecutive year, he's carving a path towards a $20,000 prize.

After competing against 93 other butchers in Orlando last week at the A1 National Meat-Cutting Challenge, Willis proved once again that he's a cut above the competition.

The past two years he won an all-expenses-paid trips to Hawaii and Amelia Island, FL for championship rounds but didn't cut it for the grand prize.

In April, Willis will attend the 2015 Texas Roadhouse national conference, in Phoenix, where the grand prize winner of $20,000 and the “Meat Cutter of the Year” title will be announced.

As a meat cutter, Willis is responsible for hand-cutting every steak served at Coralville's Texas Roadhouse.
