Investigators take the stand in Casey Frederiksen murder trial

WEBSTER CITY (KWWL) - Day two of testimony for the murder case of Casey Frederiksen, accused of sexually assaulting and then killing five-year-old Evelyn Miller in Floyd County about a decade ago.

On Wednesday, jurors heard from a number of investigators on the case, some of whom interviewed Frederiksen.

Former DCI agent Jack Seward interviewed Frederiksen the day Evelyn went missing. He says Frederiksen told him he didn't know where she was.

During the interview Seward also asked what his biggest concern was.

He says Frederiksen was worried that “she was hurt or dying somewhere. That's it. I'm afraid she's dead. I hope she is all right.”

Seward started to get emotional on the stand Wednesday and even told jurors about asking to be taken off the case.

“It was taking a tremendous emotional toll on me," said Seward. "I told them that I would work as long as I could, but when I felt I couldn't continue any further, I'd let him know. Following the interview with Noel and Casey that afternoon, I told him I just couldn't do it anymore.”

FBI agent Jennifer Sullivan also interviewed Frederiksen while he was in prison in 2007.

His story at that time was that his friend Randy Patrie had come into their apartment and took Evelyn at knifepoint. That story was different than the one he had originally told investigators back in 2005.

Sullivan says Frederiksen changed his story because he said he didn't want Evelyn's mother to be mad that he didn't stop Patrie from taking her baby girl.

At that point, Sullivan asked Frederiksen about improper contact with Evelyn, because he was currently in prison on child porn charges.

“He said, well, when she was a baby and he was changing her diapers, he had became sexually aroused and didn't act on it, but then realized that he would," said Sullivan. "He never touched her after that or never then either."

Frederiksen then admitted to Sullivan that he thought he was a "sicko" for thinking those thoughts and looking at child porn.

During cross examination, Sullivan did say Frederiksen never said he was the one who killed Evelyn.
