WEBSTER CITY (KWWL) -

The trial has begun in the murder case of Casey Frederiksen. Frederiksen is being charged with the murder of 5-year-old Evelyn Miller.

Miller went missing July 1st, 2005 in Floyd County. Five days later her body was found in the Cedar River.

Casey Frederiksen was Miller's mother's boyfriend at the time. In September 2012 he was officially charged with the crime.

Opening statements began this morning with only the prosecution taking the opportunity to address the court. The defense will make their statement at another time.

The first person to take the witness stand was Andy Christie, Evelyn Miller's father.

Christie says the last time he saw his daughter alive was his wedding to a now ex-wife on June 11th, 2005.
