Wintry mix tonight, 2-4 inches of snow, some ice - KWWL - Eastern Iowa Breaking News, Weather, Closings

Wintry mix tonight, 2-4 inches of snow, some ice

Posted: Updated:

Snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain are all in the forecast for much of eastern Iowa tonight and tomorrow.

We will start with sunshine today and end up with clouds as a low-pressure system tracks into the region, providing an interesting day for us on Tuesday.

We will start with snow tonight, but as temperatures warm up late tonight through midday tomorrow, we will have some sleet and freezing rain mixing in before changing over to all rain in places.

Snowfall amounts will depend on how much, if any, of the wintry mix occurs.

The northern counties may get 2 to 4 inches of snow, while areas around Iowa City may see only a trace to an inch, but could get up to a tenth of an inch of ice in the morning before it melts.

Tuesday afternoon will bring a cold front, strong northwest winds and falling temperatures.

Things will refreeze and snow will blow around. It will be cold Wednesday and Thursday with warmer temps for the weekend.
