IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Volunteers are needed to help clean riverbanks and streams in the Iowa City area this Spring.

The cleanups include removing invasive species, woody debris and trash from the river, creeks, and their banks.

The cleanups help reduce the threat of flooding, protects waterways and maintains water quality.

Cleanups will take place from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on March 29, April 12, 19, and 26 along the Iowa River Trail and Ralston Creek.

Anyone under 18 must have parental consent.

To sign up to participate in any of the four clean-ups, visit www.facebook.com/iowa.city.stormwater.volunteers and click on the "Events" tab.

On the actual day of the event, volunteers should check the Facebook page to verify that the clean-up is still being held as scheduled.
