IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

As her 14-year-old daughter, Emma, recovers in the hospital, Aimee Redlinger is asking for your help.

"There's people praying for her all over the world and that gives me so much hope for my daughter," said Amie Redlinger, Emma's mother.

Emma redlinger is an outgoing, funny 14-year-old girl. Her mom describes her as artistic, a long-time cheerleader who likes to be silly.

"Emma's always kind of marched to the beat of her own drum," said Aimee. "She wears her own things and she's known for her silliness.

Emma's a freshman at Vinton-Shellsburg High School.

She's currently in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

"Going into the next 24 hours will be the most critical," said Aimee.

On Tuesday, one of Emma's friends was handling a gun when it discharged. Emma was shot in the head.

"My heart breaks for him because I'm sure this is very difficult for him," said Aimee. "Emma is a friend of his. A very close friend of his."

Emma's mom would like your help helping her daughter recover.

"I believe whole-heartedly in the power of prayer and she needs all she can get," said Aimee. "I think it helps. She's in God's hands and we're praying that, with everybody else, that she's going to wake up and she's going to be my Emma again."

Friends have also set up an online account to help the family financially.
