Toyota, General Motors stand out in dependability study

Posted: Updated:
(NBC) - J.D. Power and Associates is out with its annual vehicle dependability study, which measures owner-reported problems in 3-year-old vehicles.

Lexus, Buick, Toyota and Cadillac were honored with the top four spots. General Motors and Toyota each received seven "Best in Segment" Awards.

The study also found in-vehicle technology significantly impacts owner satisfaction.

Bluetooth and voice-recognition systems not working properly were the top two problems owners reported about their 2012 model year vehicles.

In-car connectivity and communication systems were found to be twice as likely to break down three years after a driver buys a new car than they are during the first three months of ownership.
