Credit card issuers running behind on more secure credit cards

The deadline is approaching for credit card issuers to get more secure credit cards into the hands of consumers. The problem is that not all of them are ready.

A recent survey by CreditCards.com found the credit card industry is lagging behind on its own October 2015 deadline to get more microchip-enabled credit cards to consumers.

The new cards are to replace outdated, magnetic-strip cards.

The study found just three out of every 10 credit cardholders in the U.S. have been issued a chip-enabled card.

It also found men are more likely than women to have a chip already -- 36 percent of men have one, while only 27 percent of women have been issued one.
