There is nothing like game day in Cedar Falls. Even with inches of snow, fans still managed to pack the McLeod Center for University of Northern Iowa's basketball game against Evansville.

Larry Ravn, along with a cadre of former postal workers, was outside directing traffic.

“The first football games of the season, we're running around in shorts,” he laughed. “It's much better than this weather!”

But Panthers don't fear winter's worst. Inside, UNI sophomore Joel Hed was mopping up all the snow fans tracked with them.

“I'll be here until the end of the night, probably,” he said.

More people traveled from all over the state. KWWL's crew met fans from Des Moines, and Eldon Grarup, from Sheffield.

“It was not very good on Highway 65,” he said.

Grarup said he's been a longtime fan of senior Seth Tuttle, following him for years.

“Number 10, he'll be 10 for 10 and then some,” he said with a smile.

UNI's Associate Athletic Director, Steve Schofield, said he was happy with the turnout.

“The 8 o'clock start helped a little bit,” he said. “It let everybody get their driveways cleared out, and our staff got the parking lots and sidewalks cleared as well.”

Evansville was UNI's only conference loss this season — so redemption was on the line, snow or not.

“Evansville was in town, the refs were in town,” Schofield said. “Those two things are present, we're going to play.

UNI went on to top Evansville 68-57. They will face Wichita State on Saturday in Kansas.
