DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Olympic 400 meters gold medalist LaShawn Merritt leads another strong elite field headed to the Drake Relays this season. Relays director Brian Brown announced the first wave of elite athletes who have committed for the 2015 event.

Merritt returns along with 2012 Olympic gold medalist Kirani James of Grenada. Merritt edged out James in the 400 at the Relays in 2014.

The men's 110 meter hurdles will feature 7 of the top 10 ranked athletes in the world, including world records holder Aries Merritt.

The popular Pole Vault at the Mall has a new home this season. The event, which had been held at Jordan Creek Mall in West Des Moines will move to the Court Avenue entertainment district. The competition features Jenn Suhr of the USA, the world record holder in the women's pole vault.

The Drake Relays run from April 22-26, in Des Moines.
