DUBUQUE (KWWL) - Someone broke into a home that is being renovated on Washington Street in Dubuque over the weekend and caused $40,000 in damage, police said.

Police Lt. Scott Baxter said the damage included spray paint, holes in the walls and cabinets, and water damage.

Baxter said the person or persons responsible turned on the water and left it running. They also stole about $1,000 in tools, according to the police report.

Baxter said nobody was home at time, and no arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing.
