CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The City of Cedar Rapids says it has designated the first and only individual property listed as a local historic landmark - the Ausadie Building.

The building was designed by well-known architect and Cedar Rapidian William J. Brown and built by the Loomis Brothers.  The building was built at 845 1st Avenue SE for Austin and Sadie Palmer of Cedar Rapids – famous inventor of the Palmer handwriting method.

The designation as local historic landmark will enhance the protection of the site, and ensure that any proposed exterior changes are reviewed by the Historic Preservation Commission. The landmark will be included in the city's historic landmark register.

While the Ausadie Building is the only individually-listed property, other landmarks on the register include the 2nd and 3rd Avenue Historic District and the Redmond Park-Grand Avenue Historic District.
