Union's Thomsen wins 4th state wrestling title

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

 "Mission accomplished."

Those were the words of Union senior Max Thomsen, moments after completing the ultimate goal. Thomsen defeated Bondurant-Farrar's Caleb Coleman 3-0 to win his 4th consecutive state championship. The accomplishment is shared by just 23 others in state history.

Thomsen had pinned his way through the tournament, but had to go the distance on Saturday night. After leading 1-0 through 2 periods, he picked up a pair of back points after Coleman chose the down position to enter the third. Thomsen rode out the rest of the period to secure the title.

Thomsen's teammate, Jacob Holschlag, picked up his second straight state title as Union tied for 2nd in the team race. The Knight duo will begin their college careers at UNI next season.
