JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) - A man is now facing criminal charges after officials say he held a woman against her will and beat her, then lied to hospital officials that the pair had been in a snowmobiling crash.

Jonathan Truman Walte, 27, was arrested and charged with third-degree kidnapping, a felony; domestic abuse assault causing injury, also a felony; and fourth-degree criminal mischief, a serious misdemeanor.

He is currently being held in the Johnson County Jail.

According to court documents, Walte and a female victim showed up the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Emergency Room with injuries they claimed were from a snowmobile crash on Feb. 13.

Investigators with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office did follow-up interviews in which the victim claimed the true story was that Walte "confined her against her will and assaulted her."

The victim says the assault lasted several hours as she was punched, kicked, thrown to the ground and choked by Walte. She was left with bruises and cuts.
