WATERLOO (KWWL) - Families needing help to cover the costs of heating their homes in this bitter cold may be in luck.

Operation Threshold is still accepting applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. The program is paid for by the Department of Health and Human Rights.

The program helps qualifying low-income homeowners and renters with their heating costs in winter. Those who qualify for LIHEAP also cannot have their utilities turned off between November 1st and April 1st.

Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants need an ID, copy of their most recent heating and electric bill, and proof of income.

Operation Threshold has three offices:

Black Hawk County Office: 1535 Lafayette St., Waterloo, IA 50703

Buchanan County Office:  1707 First St. East, Independence, IA

Grundy County Office:  1606 G Avenue,  50644 Grundy Center, IA 50638
