IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Iowa City's parks and recreation department is sponsoring a first ever "FreezeFest" at the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area this Saturday, Feb. 21, from 1-3 p.m.

The day will feature snow-themed crafts, animal tracking, and a variety of winter activities.

With Iowa in a deep freeze, Sand Lake will be ready for ice skating.

Skates of all sizes are available for rent from Fin and Feather H2O outfitters in the recreation area.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will offer education and safety tips regarding the winter season and University of Iowa Wildlife Camp leaders will help participants brush up on survival skills in icy conditions.

Iowa City's Bird Club will be hosting bird watching sessions with lessons in bird adaptation from the Raptor Center.

Uke-A-Maniacs will provide live entertainment and Yotopia will offer snacks, self-decorated cookies, and hot chocolate.

This family-oriented event is open to the public and is free.

Terry Trueblood Recreation Area is located off Gilbert Street and Sand Road.
