IOWA CITY (KWWL) - New students at the University of Iowa will now be able to get a degree in just three years.

This fall the university will launch its "Iowa Degree in Three" program. Students can sign-up for the accelerated program, which will help them graduate sooner and save money.

Right now the following majors are available: communication studies, English, history, international studies, marketing, and theater arts. The program requires the same number of credits as a four-year degree to graduate so students are expected to take a heavier course load.

The program allows participants to use the Summer Hawk Tuition Grant to offset the cost of summer classes. Departments can also offer a waiver when a course is not available for a student.
