Union wins 2A State Duals

When it came to the class 2A final it was number 1 vs. number 2.  In order for the Union Knights to take home the hardware they'd have to take out Davenport Assumption.

 Things started rough for the Knights at 132 pound Brock Barnhart was pinned giving Assumption the early lead.

Then Max Thomsen who will b seeking his 4th state title in the traditional tournament stepped on the mat. Thomsen pinned his man in about 30 seconds... that started a trend for the Knights as 3 of their next four wrestlers would win on pins.

Teal Ludeman got a big pin a 152.

Later Jacob Holschlag took care of business with a first period fall at 170.

Assumption fought back getting a pin at the heavyweight on Michael Ahrendsen.  At 106, Union's Jon Hellman earned a big victory pinning his opponent. It came down to the final match.. Union up 33-28, the Knights' Ryder Albertsen didn't win his match but he made sure Union won it all. 33-31 Union is the final.

 3-time state champion Max Thomsen said, "We competed hard and we competed well... I'm so proud of my teammates and its a great honor."

The Knights' Jon Hellman said, "Its amazing I'm really proud to be apart of this team and that i was able to bring this home with me team to our community."
