SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (KWWL) -

Iowa State's Georges Niang, Northern Iowa's Seth Tuttle and Iowa's Aaron White have all been named to the watch list for the 2015 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award.

The award, which is in its first year, is named after Hall of Famer and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Karl Malone. A national committee selected the 16 candidates placed on the watch list.

“2015 marks the first year the Basketball Hall of Fame will recognize the top players in all positions in men's college basketball,” John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame, said in a written statement. “When it comes to power forwards who have had a drastic impact on the game, Karl Malone is at the top of the list. In terms of consistent play, “The Mailman” always delivered and we are delighted to include him in this recognition of the best power forwards in the game today.”

The list will be narrowed from 16 to five by early March. The winner will be announced at ESPN's new College Basketball Awards in Los Angeles on Friday, April 10.
