Landowners win one more fight against RICL eminent domain issue

GRUNDY COUNTY (KWWL) -

Landowners against a proposed high voltage power line won another fight with the Iowa Utilities Board.

The Rock Island Clean Line would originate in O'Brien County, go through 16 Iowa counties, and continue through to Grundy County, Illinois.

The line would generate power for about one and a half million homes in Illinois.

Recently, the Iowa Utilities Board denied RICL's motion to consider eminent domain in a separate hearing.

Landowners say it's good news for those fighting the project but they say it's not over.

"Had they granted this motion for Rock Island it would have made it a lot easier for them and it would have gave Rock Island all the leverage on landowners to pressure them to sign easements. Well, that's not how it's suppose to work," said Ted Junker, Iowa landowner.
