Cyclone wrestlers take down Panthers 24-12

Posted: Updated:
AMES (KWWL) -  Iowa State started strong and finished strong as the 8th ranked Cyclone wrestlers took down UNI 24-12. The win avenged a loss that ISU took last year in Cedar Falls.

The match opened at 174 pounds as Iowa State began with 3 straight wins. Second ranked Kyven Gadson capped that run, nearly pinning Basil Minto at 197 pounds. Gadson remained perfect with a 17-5 major decision.

UNI countered with a pair of wins. At heavyweight, 10th ranked Blaize Cabell remained undefeated in duals action defeating Quean Smith 5-2. Number 5 Dylan Peters followed that with a first period pin against the Cyclones' Kyle Larson as the Panthers pulled within 10-9 in the team score.

Iowa State, however, won 4 of the final 5 matches contested to put them in the win column.
