Hawkeyes stunned by last place Northwestern in overtime

EVANSTON, Ill. (KWWL) -

Jared Uthoff's miracle 3 at the end of regulation only gave Iowa a brief reprieve. The Hawkeyes struggled in overtime, falling to Northwestern 66-61 as the Wildcats won for the first time in their last 11 games.

Bryant McIntosh led the way in Northwestern's win with 18 points.

Iowa (15-10, 6-6 Big Ten) struggled to get a foothold throughout. The Hawkeyes looked like they might pull things out when Josh Oglesby hit back to back 3 pointers to give Iowa their first lead 38-36 with under 9 minutes to go. The teams went back and forth down the stretch with Iowa trailing by 3 in the final seconds of regulation. That's when Uthoff hit "the shot." With a defender draped all over him, Uthoff drained a 24 foot 3 pointer to send the game to overtime.

In the extra session, Iowa once again struggled to hit shots. Northwestern (11-14, 2-10 Big Ten) took the lead for good with about a minute to go as Tre Demps fed Scottie Lindsey for an uncontested layin.

Uthoff led the way for Iowa with a career high 35 points in the loss. Aaron White, meanwhile, hit just 1 of 12 from the field, finishing with 6 points.
