IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

This weekend, Iowa City park crews are taking the steps in getting the outdoor ice skating areas back in operation.

With recent the snow storms, that dropped rain one night and nearly a foot of snow the next, created uneven skating surfaces on City Park Pond and the lake at the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area. Both areas have been closed to ice skaters since then, due to unsafe conditions.

Park staff spent this week flooding and grooming both areas to create a more suitable skating surface. Both the skating pond at City Park and the skating area at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area will re-open on Saturday. Skaters are asked to stay off the ice until that time.
