Driver dies in one car crash in southern Iowa

MONROE COUNTY (KWWL) -

One person is dead and two teenagers injured after a minivan crash in Monroe County.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. on Highway 34 west of Albia.

The Iowa State Patrol says Christopher Alexander, 23, of Des Moines, died after the 2000 Chevy Voyager Van he was driving failed to negotiate a curve.

They say Alexander overcorrected and lost control.

They say the van struck a tree, then flipped over on its top.

Troopers say Alexander was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Abigail Bittner, 16, of Knoxville and Bailee Showers, 16, of Knoxville were both taken to an Albia hospital for treatment.
