A popular and controversial book hits the big screen.

Fifty Shades of Grey debuted at theaters across the country Thursday night.

Business was brisk for the first showing of the movie in Waterloo.

It's already set pre-sale box office records for Valentine's Day across the country.

The steamy romance has ignited controversy with its themes of sex and dominance.

We caught up with one group of young women who are fans of the book and couldn't wait to see the movie.

"It's there. It's real life. It happens all the time so there's no point in trying to hide it and make it seem like such a bad thing. It's not," said moviegoer Bridgit Zermeno.

"Personally, it's not something I would want in my life. I wouldn't want to be her. But it's interesting to read and I think it would be interesting to watch," said moviegoer Haley Dahl.

Some religious groups are urging moviegoers to stay away - based on the message they say it portrays.

The movie is rated R so many theaters are making sure no-one under 17 gets in without a parent or guardian.

The movie is expected to bring in about $60 million this weekend.
