DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Principal Vicki Sullivan confirmed today via release that the bullets found yesterday in a toilet were brought to school "by a very young student who did not understand the danger or magnitude of possessing them and bringing them into the school."

"There was never any ill intent or threat to students or staff," she said in the release.

PREVIOUS STORY:

Several unspent .380 caliber bullets were found at Bryant Elementary School in Dubuque Wednesday, according to a release from Principal Vicki Sullivan.

According to the release, the bullets were found in a toilet in the boys restroom late Wednesday afternoon.

Students remained in their classrooms, and had their coats checked before they left for the day, the release said. Students were also told to leave all of their personal belongings, including backpacks, at the school.

The release also said the school asked for the police's assistance. A canine unit was brought in after the school dismissed, but found no additional bullets or weapons, the release said.

Classes will be held as usual Thursday.
