Iowa's Telford named Wrestler of the Week

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The University of Iowa's Bobby Telford has been named the Big Ten Conference's Wrestler of the Week.

Telford, a Senior from Hockessin, Delaware, shutout #13 Spencer Myers of Maryland on February 6 and #6 Jimmy Lawson of Penn State on February 8.

Telford, who wrestles as a heavyweight, has a 21-1 record and is ranked #2 in the country. He is 8-1 against ranked opponents.

This is the second Wrestler of the Week honor in Telford's career. He shared the honor with Indiana's Taylor Walsh on December 31, 2014.

This is the fourth Wrestler of the Week honor for Iowa this season. On top of Telford's two honors, freshman Brnadon Sorenson has received the honor twice as well; January 13 and January 27.

The Hawkeyes, who have clinched a share of the Big Ten regular season championship, host Michigan on Friday night at 7 p.m. It will be Senior Night and seven seniors, including Telford, Josh Dziewa, Mike Evans, Jeremy Fahler, Matt Gurule, Michael Kelly and Nick Moore will be honored after the dual.

    Just hours after landing in Taipei the Iowa baseball team got right down to business, posting a 10-5 win over the Czech National Team in an exhibition contest Thursday afternoon. The Hawkeyes, representing team USA at the World University Games, got a pair of 3-run home runs out of Robert Neustrom to clinch the victory.

    The Missouri Valley Conference exercised an option to keep the men's basketball tournament in Saint Louis through at least 2020. The previous agreement ended in 2018 with a two year to remain at the Scottrade Center. The tournament, known as Arch Madness, will conduct it's 30th straight tournament in Saint Louis in 2020.
