IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center is now taking donations of formalwear for prom, and this year proceeds will go toward United Action of Youth (UAY_

High school students are invited to shop for clothing and accessories starting Friday, Feb. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at either Stuff Etc. location.

Students will need to show their high school ID.

Donated dresses will be available for $10 each on a first-come, first-served basis, and the first 50 shoppers in the door at either location will receive a $10 coupon off prom-related accessories, including shoes, handbags, jewelry and Stuff Etc.'s consigned dresses.

This year, Project Prom proceeds will be donated to the local youth nonprofit organization, United Action for Youth (UAY).

The donated items will be sold at extremely low prices to local high school students to help them build special prom memories affordably -- and all proceeds will be donated to UAY.

It's a partnership between the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center, Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and Stuff Etc. stores, encourages people to clean out their closets and donate prom dresses and other formalwear they no longer have use for, as well as shoes, handbags, and jewelry.

If you would like to donate, the clothing and prom accessories should be in good to excellent condition, with no significant spots, tears or holes.

They may be dropped off at any of the following three locations until Feb. 13:

•Stuff Etc., Iowa City, 1027 Hwy. 6: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

•Stuff Etc., Coralville, 2818 Commerce Drive: Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

•Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The donations area is located on the north side of the building.

Organizers are still looking for community volunteers to help students pick out dresses and accessories, place dresses back on hangers and racks, and put accessories back on displays. Volunteers may sign up to work a two- or three-hour shift on Feb. 20 and/or Feb. 21 at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084ba8ac2fabfa7-project.
