Eastern Iowa Home show draws crowd of characters

The Eastern Iowa Home Improvement and Landscaping Show is now in its 64th year in Waterloo.

In a show that draws in nearly 10,000 people, you never know who you're going to meet.

"I immigrated to the United States five years ago," says business owner Bearnd Wittnepen.

What brings a German to an Eastern Iowa home show?

"You see this ring? That's what brought me to Iowa...love!" exclaimed Wittnepen.

He's just one of the many business owners working the crowds.

From all natural grapeseed oil, to giant clippers, and every jerky you can think of, the show has something for everyone.

Many of the businesses worked hard to get here, and stay here.

"In May of 1994, it was myself and my father," says business owner Jake Rabe. "Today there's 39 employees."

Because they realize the best business relationships are also friendships.

"I like it here," says Wittnepen. "People are really easy going, and you can really communicate and my customers are more like friendships than business relationships."
